Wedding Song - Love Story & Viva La Vida

May 8, 2009

When I first heard this arrangement, I was totally blown away! Couldn’t help replaying it over and over again. It’s Jon Schmidt’s arrangement of Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” and Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida”.

And that’s a Fazioli grand piano. Sweet!

Do you think it’s suitable for a wedding song? Can you see this song being incorporated into your wedding?

Wedding Song - “Two Words”

March 13, 2009

As soon as I saw this video, I knew I had to share it here! Remember the 90s when Lea Salonga became the singing voice of Princess Jasmine in the Aladdin theme song, “A Whole New World”. Not forgetting the all time favourite “We Could be in Love” duet with Brad Kane (I could never stop playing that song on my casette player in those days!)

Thanks to Kenneth Tan of Fabulous Chapter Photography who shared this in his FB. I had goosebumps watching her wedding video and listening to her angelic voice. Check it out here - Lea Salonga’s Two Words.

A beautiful song to consider when planning your wedding music. Have a great weekend, peps!

Luv luv..

Beautiful First Dance

January 26, 2009

Wouldn’t you just agree that they both exude such amicable style and energy? First Lady Michelle Obama looked absolutely stunning in an alluring, timeless white floor-length, silk chiffon one-shoulder gown designed by 26-year old American Taiwanese designer Jason Wu. Beyonce did a wonderful redition of At Last at the Neighbourhood Inaugural Ball. I think it was as good as the original version by Etta James. What do you think?

Blues & Tunes

December 9, 2008

Days like today is a great day to hibernate within the confines of my room. It’s a public holiday. The roads are quiet but I have no intention just yet to go out. It’s been raining cats and dogs all morning. The sky is dark and gloomy, with just a weak ray of sunshine peeking through the heavy clouds. It’s a great time to free the mind and simply indulge in doing nothing at all. It has been a hectic week, I shall not feel guilty about being unproductive today.

With a book in hand and the strong aroma of freshly brewed dark roasted coffee lingering amidst the cool after rain breeze, I switch on my player and snuggle up comfortably onto the soft lush edges of my dark brown suede sofa. A peaceful moment of quiet bliss.

There is no point to this post, really. As the soft music gently caresses my senses, I decide to share a few of my favourite must-haves in my playlist.

*Remember to switch Berry (the Boom Bear) off if you wanna play the videos.

The Closest Thing to Crazy - Katie Melua

This song is from her very first album a few years ago but it never fails to set the mood for a relaxing afternoon. “Just like Heaven” from her latest album is just as beautiful.

C’est si Bon - Arielle Dombasle

I am a huge fan of Arielle Dombasle! Her songs are great for pre-dinner cocktails or to set the mood for an afternoon delight. Her version of C’est si Bon is the best!

I Will be Here - Steven Curtis Chapman

Steven Curtis actually wrote this song for his daughter and the lyrics are very meaningful. I nearly cried when one of my couples sang this song at their wedding. Thereafter, it became my top 20 play list.

L.O.V.E -Frank Sinatra

A rather common song for weddings but the subtle playfulness in its catchy melody and not too cheesy lyrics never fail to make me sing or prance along to the tunes (even if I’m seated!).  Whose version is better? Nat King Cole or Frank Sinatra?

Olivia Ong’s version is fantastic too!

Joss Stone - Right to be Wrong

Her husky voice gives a sultry, soul-ful character to every song she sings but this one’s my favourite.

Beautiful Mess - Jason Mraz

I can play it over and over again and still fall in love all over again with the song (and Jason Mraz). Awesomeness!!

That’s all for now. Have a great week ahead! I know I have much to look forward to *grin*

Back to my book, coffee’s getting cold.

Peacock Dance

September 26, 2008

One of the best things about being a wedding planner is the continuous learning about culture and customs that makes this job so fulfilling. Being a very ‘factual’ person, often times I find myself immersing deeply into a subject and for this wedding, the peacock dance!

According to India9, the “Peacock Dance is confined to the hilly regions of Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam districts of Andhra Pradesh. It is performed by the Khonds who live in this region, during their weddings and festivals. In Tamil Nadu, this dance form is known as Mayilattam.”

As most of you know, peacock is the national bird and pride of India. It’s significance in Hinduism is sacred, with the peacock being the vehicle of Kartikkeya, the God of War who is a son of Lord Shiva. Kumari (shakti) also rode a peacock in the entourage of the Goddess Durga.

I think all Indian dances (from classical to folk) are the most graceful embodiment of expressions yet also the most complex dance forms there are on earth. The Indian classical dance especially, is a beautiful embodiment of music, drama and dance - nritta, nritya and natya. The peacock dance takes on the grace, poise and mannerism of a peacock. According to Krishna Lal, “there are 108 postures in Indian dancing, and one of them is mayura-lalita, the name given after the characteristic posture of the peacock.”

Peacocks spread out their majestic tails and start dancing in rythmic fashion at the sight of dark clouds, an indication that rain is in the offing. Their melodious cries are associated with rain and hence, fertility.

Masquerade Dance

August 6, 2008

Masquerade dance inspired from the Phantom of the Opera. The elaborate costumes add grandeur to your function especially for Masquerade-themed functions. We only had 6 dancers for this, since the stage was small, but it would have been a lot more interesting and theatric if we had a larger stage with 12 - 16 dancers.

Berry the Boom Bear

July 23, 2008

Hello there, meet Berry, my blog pet. Berry has migrated from my personal blog to this blog.

Berry is my boom bear. His role is to keep you entertained with some of my favourite wedding and cocktail tunes. I know he’s in the wrong colour - I mean, he’s a he but he’s pink in colour. I’m trying to feminise him so he looks a lil cuddlier coz he has this really serious look on his face that says, “don’t touch me”. But don’t worry, click on him as much as you want, he likes to be tickled.

Enjoy the songs. Berry has a lot more in store.

Ideas for First Dance at your Wedding

July 7, 2008

Would you like to do something fun and memorable at your wedding? Then take the cues from these groovy couples who made their wedding unique with their signature dance moves. Something that their guests will definitely remember for a long time to come.

For example, breaking out of the ordinary with a surprise breakdance.

Or having the time of your life with a little dirty dancing.

Can’t touch this first dance to Hammer time.

More importantly, you’ve got to make the song and the dance uniquely yours. 20 years down the road, you can look back at your wedding video and still have a good laugh about it.

These two couples may not make it to the dance championship, but there’s nothing sweeter than couples who simply let loose (silly or not) and just have the time of their life!

Finally, my FAVOURRITEE of them all is none other than this awesome cool dance remix that definitely required tedious dance class practice, co-ordination with professional dancers and hours of finding the right songs.

Greetings!

June 27, 2008

Hello! Welcome to my first post in our new blog. I said new because we previously maintained a blog which was hosted on Wordpress. In line with our revamped branding and website, we have also started a new blog on our own domain. Most people share the end results of their work, but I hope this blog would be a wonderful place for my team and me to share selected snapshots of experiences in our journey as planners, designers, producers and coordinators. The pain, challenges, successes, implementation and inspirations that come with not just producing successful events or beautiful weddings, but also the growing path of building a business, meeting new friends, travel discovery and more. From time to time, we’ll also use this channel to update you on our latest xperiential escapades, promotions, bridal fairs and more.

Our presence in the blogsphere is to complement our existing services and I want it to be entertaining, informative and interactive. So, yes, I’d like to hear from you too! After all, being a planner, these are the most relevant topics I could share. I know there isn’t much to read at the moment as the structure of this blog will slowly evolve and take on a personality of its own, just as weddings and events eventually do. So bookmark this site, stay tuned and come back for more.
